Correctional Service Canada is investigating after an offender escaped, and was recaptured, Wednesday morning in Kingston.

Offender Ronald McDonald, sentenced to just over two-and-a-half years for break and enter and failing to comply in November 2013, was noticed missing from the minimum security prison at around 11:30 a.m.

“It was observation of staff,” Wayne Buller, assistant warden of management services at Collins Bay Institution, told The Whig-Standard. “They saw that someone wasn't where they were supposed to be. Then it was confirmed with a count.”

McDonald was found at approximately 12:30 p.m., and apprehended by CSC correctional officers.

“He was apprehended very close to the property,” Buller said. “He was at the bus-stop, he was just standing there.”

CSC has started an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
