    - - Jordan Lee Trudeau Inquest Verdict

An Ontario coroner's jury in Napanee has ruled the shooting death of Jordan Lee Trudeau in the gymnasium at Millhaven Institution a homicide.

In an inquest, homicide means another person’s actions caused the death but does not carry any criminal or civil implications.

Trudeau, 29, was imprisoned at the maximum security prison near Kingston, Ont., when he died March 20, 2011 from a gun shot to the chest taken by corrections officers posted to the recreation gallery located above the gymnasium.

Various high level investigations have concluded that there was no criminal wrong doing by two officers that discharged their firearms during the violent outbreak in the recreation area. CSC officers followed proper protocol. The 3 woman, 2 man jury made no recommendations after hearing evidence from five witnesses over the last two days.

I spoke with Jordan Trudeau’s mother as she left the courthouse and she was pleased with the verdict, noting that "this should never happen again”.
